Not needed in good soils, if compost is added yearly. Otherwise, sprinkle low analysis fertilizer (5-3-4) such as alfalfa meal, blood meal or fish emulsion in spring

Mulch:

2-3" layer of organic bark or wood chips

Plant in well-drained soil, a sunny location for best color, fertilize sparingly

Winter:

Prune late winter or early spring before bud break. During the first 3 years only prune weak or damaged branches, after that, prune more vigorously to control height and shape and to encourage new growth. Then, prune as needed to allow for light and air movement
